TradeMe has entered into a partnership with the police to help fight crime. Though, it is one of several businesses which have signed up to form the Crime Prevention Partnership Forum, whose main target will be to retail theft, fraud and robbery.
The auction website's Spokesman Chris Budge shared that partnership could help fight crime rings which go to the extent of stealing items from shops, and then selling the goods online.
Police and TradeMe can work mutually to catch scam artists, who take undue advantage of unwitting tourists, as the Rugby World Cup is approaching near.
The CPPF is a high level partnership, which was created to set a relationship with business that could work collaboratively to disrupt crime, shared Deputy Commissioner for Police, Viv Rickard. He said, "This is the first time police and business have worked together collectively at a national level in any sort of formal capacity".
CPPF has been doing analysis of crimes including bank robbery, sharing of information on fraud offenders, discussion with members on insurance investigation standards. It has also analyzed retail theft, stolen vehicles, and assaults on taxi drivers.
The members of CPPF include Bankers Association, Institute of Professional Investigators, the NZ Security Association, Taxi Federation, Insurance Council of NZ, American Society for Industrial Security International, Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Motel Association of NZ and Telecommunications Industry Group.
