The wages of Australia's lowest paid workers have been increased by $26 a week and the minimum wages have increased to almost $570 per week. It has discrepancy of 22 cents which has given rise to a lot of confusion.
However, it is being opposed by a lot of quarters. The wages will impact around 2 million workers across Australia. The revision in the wages will cause businesses across the country millions of dollars.
Some employer groups are already raising concerns about these changes. Some politicians are also trying to intervene in the matter.
It is claimed that the small businesses will especially be impacted more due to these measures. The revised wages will take effect on July 1.
Restaurant and Catering Australia's CEO, John Hart has also stressed that it will impact the sector hard, as a lot of workers are paid wages on an hourly rate. He pointed that for every violation, an employer can be fined up to $33,000 by the Fair Work ombudsman. He stressed that immediate clarity is needed on the issue.
Legal experts also felt that this can give rise to a lot of lawsuits by employers as well as employees. Most of the Companies are also feeling that a wage hike in these uncertain times will not help anyone and should not be enforced.
