According to the latest details leaked about the Motorola Droid Shadow, which has now been branded the Droid Xtreme, the Android-based handset will likely be launched on Verizon either in July or in August.

Going by the information revealed on DroidLife, the new Droid Xtreme – Motorola’s second Droid smartphone - will run Android OS 2.2 “Froyo”; and will feature an 8-megapixel camera with an “HD Video” label around the lens, thereby indicating that the handset will be capable of shooting movies at a resolution of 720p at least.

DroidLife has also reported that the Droid Xtreme, and new ‘Droid 2’ model, have both passed through Verizon’s inventory system; which means that the devices may likely hit the stores at similar timeframes.

In addition, the Xtreme will also reportedly feature a 720 MHz Texas Instruments OMAP 3630 processor; 8 GB of internal storage, with an 8 GB microSD memory card; Wi-Fi; 3G; Bluetooth; and a GPS receiver.

Meanwhile, tech blog Gizmodo reports that the Verizon-exclusive Droid Xtreme will feature a 4.3-inch FWVGA touchscreen screen; 16 GB internal storage; a faster Snapdragon processor; and an HDMI port.

Furthermore, an alleged image – posted to howardforums - of the Xtreme’s battery has revealed that the device will feature a 1500-mAh battery – which is somewhat thinner than the battery for the Motorola Droid 1 – thereby, theoretically, giving the Xtreme a longer charge.
