Sony and Square Enix sued over FFXIII damaging PS3 consoles

Square Enix SonyIn a class action lawsuit filed against Sony Computer Entertainment and Square Enix, the plaintiff, Daniel Wolf from San Diego, California, has alleged that the popular ‘Final Fantasy XIII’ for the Sony PlayStation 3 freezes the console and sometimes even destroys it.

Saying that the last March-released ‘Final Fantasy XIII’ (FFXIII) has brought about “severe and extensive damage” for the PS3 owners, Wolf reiterated that the freezing of the consoles virtually rendered them inoperable as well as damaged beyond repair.

Though the much-hyped FFXIII drew big crowds of fervent gamers on its launch date, it soon let down the buyers – some of them utterly disappointed at the fact that their PS3 console crashed the first time they played the game on it.

Further noting that both Sony and Square were aware of the issue, the lawsuit filing, via which Wolf is seeking over $5 million in damages and some other financial relief, alleged: “Both Defendants are eminently aware of the damage being cause by their defective products, and have chosen to do nothing about it.”

Meanwhile, neither Sony nor Square have disclosed whether the damage resulted due to a software or a hardware problem; and both the companies are trading back and forth the blame for the over $5 million worth of damages consoles – while Sony is blaming the dodgy discs for the problem, Square is saying that the damages have resulted because of defective PS3s consoles.
