The Chinese electronics giant Foxconn has announced a rise in the wages of its employees for the second time within a week. This has been done in the wake of more than 10 suicide attempts witnessed in the Company since the beginning of this year.
Foxconn has promised to raise the salaries of its employees by at least 70% before October, provided the employees meet the conditions.
The first announcement regarding the hike claimed that the rise in salaries will be close to 30%. Since the start of this year, the Company saw nearly 10 suicide attempts among the employees working in the Shenzhen factory.
The Company said that the pay hike will ease the pressure of working overtime, on the workers.
"While overtime work was always voluntary, this wage increase will reduce overtime work as a personal necessity", stated the Company.
According to a report released by Foxconn, the wages at its Shenzhen plant would rise from 1,200 Yuan to 2,000 Yuan.
In order to avail the pay hike facility, the workers will have to clear a performance test which will be conducted over three months.
New employees will be put under a probation period of three months.
