Apple’s new Safari 5 Web browser includes Safari Reader

Apple’s new Safari 5 Web browser includes Safari ReaderAccording to a prematurely-released press release related to Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), the company's new Safari 5 Web browser - which Apple is releasing for both Mac as well as Windows - will include a Safari Reader feature.

Going by the details published, and later being pulled, the Safari Reader will essentially present Web pages in a streamlined interface; and will include support for extensions created by developers. It will also boast new HTML5 capabilities as well as performance enhancements, including the new Nitro JavaScript engine.

Similar to Web-based services such as Readability, the new Safari Reader feature will give users the option of viewing a Web page in a somewhat trimmed-down, scrollable view; thereby doing away with a number of distracting elements.

Designed chiefly with the aim of facilitating the reading of online articles, the Safari Reader will not be an RSS client; rather, it will feature the automatic detection ability to decide "articles" and reformat them.

With the Safari 5 browser equipped with the ability to detect both single and multipage articles, users will be able to toggle the Reader mode for displaying the articles, printing them, or sharing them through e-mail.

To be a free download for Mac and Windows, Safari 5 will be compatible with Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.8 or later; Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.2 or later; Windows Vista; Windows XP SP2; and Windows 7.
