Two Gold Coast Company Directors Sentenced for $2.2 Million Tax Fraud

Two Gold Coast Company Directors Sentenced for $2.2 Million Tax FraudTwo Gold Coast Company Directors, the 39 year old Adam Hargraves and 38 year old Daniel Stoten, have been put behind bars for a $2.2 million tax fraud, after a Tax Office investigation was conducted. They are being convicted to six-and-a-half years' jail by the Queensland Supreme Court, as a consequence of the Tax Office's Project Wickenby operation.

The pair used international tax havens to understate their income. They were utilizing a scheme which was arranged by a Swiss accounting firm to deceive the Commonwealth between 2002 and 2004.

They were able to maintain the secrecy of the arrangement until mid-2005, when federal authorities raided their homes and properties. Tax Commissioner, Michael D'Ascenzo opined that the sentencing is a positive outcome for the community.

They were Directors and shareholders of the Broadbeach-based Phone Directories Company. They allegedly hid Swiss and Jersey bank accounts so that they could evade payment of $2 million in Company tax. Justice George Fryberg, while sentencing them in the court in Brisbane, shared that they did not repent for their actions.

Justice Fryberg said, "Stoten told significant lies... and procured staff at PDC to destroy evidence".
