Recent hack runs Android 2.2 ‘FroYo’ on the iPhone

AndroidUsers of the iPhone 3G wishing that their handset could run the Android operating system can now do so, thanks to a recent hack that effectively combines the body of the iPhone with the brains of the Android!

While the hack essentially pertains to running the newest Android 2.2 or ‘FroYo’ version of the increasingly popular Google mobile OS, it still suffers from some bugs which render it unstable for widespread use. Nonetheless, the attempt certainly marks the first step in the creation of a hacked Android operating system for the iPhone.

Though the modified Android-iPhone does not turn out to be a very sophisticated device, it still is an amazing alteration. As of now, the mod handset can only help iPhone users to send text messages and make calls. Moreover, the modified handset does not support Wi-Fi; and can heat up fairly quickly.

The recent hack is not the first attempt to port the Android on to the iPhone – last month too, an editor at the PC World had mentioned his progress towards bringing the Android OS to his Apple phone.

In fact, the modification of the handsets is a trend that is fast catching up. A number of daring smartphone owners have reportedly hacked their Windows Mobile handsets to run the Android; thereby getting the Android experience without any expense!
