Fairfax Closes “The Independent” Circulation

The-IndependentFairfax Media has announced to stop the further releases of its business newspaper publication “The Independent” from July 1. The newspaper’s 8 correspondents will now join the regular newspapers and websites of the Company.

The Independent was initiated by Warren Berryman and Jenni McManus, the famous investigative journalist in 2004. Till date, McManus had been writing for it.

Mr. Berryman died in 2004 and Ms McManus sold off the newspaper of Fairfax in 2006.

Tony Timpson, the Founder of Cavalier Carpets, who had been honored as the Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit, expressed the attachment of his sentiments with the newspaper, which he had been partially patronizing since long.

He said that the newspaper has been the favorite of many and has managed to remain in the mainstream always with its most awaited business reviews and advertisements.

The Independent has been running since last 18 years. It was established in 1992 with an investigative genre.

“It was a specialist business weekly, playing to a niche. It was number two in the market and is really hard to create a strong business around that kind of publication”, said FairFax Spokesperson.

The newspaper had no commercial competition, as such.
