According to the figure released by Statistics New Zealand, the amount of nights guests stayed in Otago during April has increased 1%, as compared to the same time last year. Hotels showed gain of 7% or 65,000 guest nights in April from a year earlier. Statistics New Zealand further added that Backpackers fell 5%or 22,000 and holiday parks were down 12,000 or 2%.
The largest improvement in guest nights was witnessed in Otago, which was up 30,000 or 8%. Aukland stood at the second position with an increase of 25,000 or 6%, and the guest nights in Canterbury surged 16,000 or 4%.
Contrary to this, guest nights in Waikato fell 20,000 or 8% and in Wellington dipped 16,000, or 7%.
Guest nights by international visitors escalated to 17,000 or 2%to 1.1m. Otago witnessed a rise of 12% or 22,000 and Canterbury saw a gain of 5% or 10,000. While Waikato was down 8000 or 11%, Wellington recorded 10,000 or
13% less international guest nights.
Domestic guest nights surged by just 5000 to 1.7m and Auckland witnessed the biggest gain f 26,000 or 11%.The possession rate slipped to 50% in April from 51% last year, excluding holiday parks.
