The History of Comets

CometHumanity’s earliest records notify that Comets, Halley's in exaction, are old friends of the human race and have usual appearances in the inner solar system. But in astronomical terms, human acumen is a very fresh thing - undeniably, so is life on Earth.

The Sun and the various stars in our local neighborhood were much nearer together, long earlier than our home planet was even created. The accumulation discs of dust and space clutter from which all the planets and comets and everything initially created were almost touching, and substance was customarily passed around amongst the juvenile and impulsive stars.

Dr. Hal Levison, a Colorado-based boffin, says that when the sun was young, it shared a lot of sputter with its siblings as is very much evident today.

The flying comets were captured by whichever stars they were passing at the time, when the hottest young stars exerted a sort of interstellar blowing effect, detonating most of the dust and gas away and disbanding the strongly huddled proto-suns.

"If we assume that the Sun's observed proto-planetary disk can be used to estimate the indigenous population of the Oort cloud. We can conclude that more than 90% of the observed Oort cloud comets have an extra-solar origin”, says Levison.
