The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), which opens at the Los Angeles Convention Center on Tuesday, will witness the display of a wide array of high-profile game titles and systems that will hit the stores during the next one year; as well as an early glimpse of products to be released in the coming years.
One of the grandest trade shows of the gaming industry, the E3 – which has been a somewhat downsized event during the last few years - will a full-blown affair this time round, boasting the attendance of nearly 40,000 attendees.
Noting that every major publisher will be attracted to the E3 platform this year, Electronic Entertainment Design and Research analyst Jesse Divnich said that the event comes at an opportune time, to give the struggling gaming industry a much-needed boost.
In an email to Wired.com, Divnich said: “The industry has performed poorly over the last 16 months, and E3 2010 is a time to show that bigger, better and more entertaining games are right around the corner.”
The show will mark the addition of flashy new technology to the existing gaming systems of bigwigs like Microsoft and Sony. While the key focus of Microsoft will be Project Natal, a camera-based device which will enable Xbox
360 players to control the onscreen action using body movements; Sony will highlight its PlayStation ‘Move’ motion controller, and its foray into 3-D stereoscopic gaming.
