A study conducted at the University of London has reported that the fights between parents, affect the young children’s health.
The study has found that if the mother is being abused by the father frequently, it increases the risk of child obesity. Pre-school children are more prone to the family violence and among them too, girls have more chances of being fat. These children are also expected to develop heart related and blood pressure diseases, later in their lives.
The report is based on the study of 1,595 children, who were born between the years 1998 and 2000 in U.S. Most of these children had unmarried parents. The mothers of these kids were interviewed for the five years, along with the interviews, the height and weight of these kids, were also measured.
When the kids turned 5 years old, almost 50% had seen the violence in their family and out of those 50% about 17% were fat. The experiment therefore, led to the conclusion that the young children, whose mothers were abused by their partners had 80% more chances of being obese at the age of 5.
Researchers have shown that a child’s obesity is affected by various factors like watching television, diet and their mother’s depression.
