The volunteers in the Rick Hansen Wheels in Motion event scheduled for this Sunday, are looking forward to raise at least $20,000, this year.
The annual event will be held for the eighth time tomorrow. It basically aims at raising funds for the sufferers of spinal cord wounds. The volunteers make people aware of such problems, as they can occur to anyone.
The Rick Hansen Foundation is essentially a charitable organization, which conducts researches on spinal cord injuries and funds the treatments of the sufferers of these injuries.
Event Organizer Robin-Lee Gibson is of the opinion that the greater the awareness the lesser will be the occurrence of complications in people.
“It is all about awareness and wheelchair accessibility. I challenge anyone to go along the E&N Trail in a wheelchair”, he said.
Gibson and his team are expecting nearly 500 entries in this year’s event. The contestants will be asked to walk, wheel or run over a distance of 2 to 10 kilometers, by the side of E&N Trail.
In doing so, the volunteers will enable the healthy and problem free participants to get well- versed with the precautions.
