Asperger’s, the New Trend on TV

AutismMusician Moby was recently interviewed by the New York Times. In the interview he revealed that he acts as if he has Asperger’s. He is of the view that it makes his voice appealing.

Recent trends have shown that there is an increased mention of autism in movies, television and books. Autism is a grave disorder of the nervous system.

Also, there are characters like The Phantom of the Opera and teenage hero in a novel, House Rules, who are affected by this disease.

In House Rules, there is 17 year old boy, called Jacob Hunt. He has Asperger’s syndrome. He is shown to have interest in criminal forensics. Also, he does not have any friends and he throws tantrums.

According to Dafydd Mann, a young guitar player with Asperger’s, autism is all about doing the similar things that other people do, in a different manner. He further adds that the difference is in the manner of doing the things. Mann appeared in a show called Autistic Superstars, which is broadcasted on the BBC.

In the show a documentary was shown. This documentary depicted the life of autistic people. The participants played and sang. The participants were not doing these activities for fame or money, but because playing was the only way in which they could display their feelings.
