Victoria’s Villages to be Main Attraction in Tourism Drive

In order to promote tourism in the regional and rural Victoria, a $36 million package was announced in Kyneton, yesterday by Premier, John Brumby with a multi-million dollar campaign, which will encompass Victoria's villages.

The package was appreciated by City of Greater Bendigo Director of city futures, Stan Liacos.

He stated that as the city is the regional capital in that part of Victoria, therefore any promotion in the tourism destinations will prove helpful for the economy there.

Mr. Brumby said that in the package $25 million has been granted for new tourism assets and the renovation of the current tourism assets and the nature-based tourism infrastructure will be preferred.

Another $6 million in the package is for "Villages of Victoria" campaign that aims to highlight Tourism Victoria's highly thriving Daylesford campaign so that the focus can be turned to the Victoria's unique villages.

He further added that Villages of Victoria campaign will portray the typical food, wine, nature and spa experiences in country Victoria, with the villages including Kyneton, Castlemaine, Maldon and Daylesford.

Also, $2 million will be invested for the development of locally owned and run regional tourism boards.

Regional and Rural Development, Minister Jacinta Allan also said that the investment will help in strengthening the regional tourism.
