Shoppers- Be Prepared to Shell Out More at Supermarket

United States supermarket guru, Phil Lempert advised that consumers should be prepared to shell out more at the supermarket. He shared that the consumers need to focus on quality. He said, “The problem globally is we feel as consumers and as food companies that we always need to drive the price of food down”.

The appetite for low pricing contributed to growing problems with obesity, diabetes and food safety. He added that people are through a nutritional correction. High fructose corn syrup costs about half the price of sugar in the U. S. Companies like Coke and Pepsi eliminating high fructose corn syrup and replacing back it with sugar even though it's higher priced.

He insisted that if people want to get taste, health and food safety, then they should start putting some costs back into the system. He said, “If you look at the perceptions Americans in particular have about New Zealand it is very positive”.

Supermarkets' profits were typically 1 to 2% of income. New Zealand supermarkets were exceptional in cleanliness and presentation, revealed Phil Lempert.
