The annual E3 game conference in Los Angeles Tuesday had Nintendo introducing its portable 3DS gaming device - a three-dimensional handheld which, sans the requirement of any special glasses, promises to provide gamers a simple, elegant, and effective 3D gaming experience.
Though there has not been much official disclosure about the specifications of the Nintendo 3DS – which will likely hit the stores by the end of the fiscal year concluding in March -, the handheld device will probably feature a touchscreen, and three cameras. While the two cameras at the back facilitate the clicking of 3D pictures; the one front facing camera will be for head-tracking.
Talking about the upcoming 3DS handheld, Satoru Iwata, the President of the Kyoto, Japan-based Nintendo, said during the course of an interview that the company chose to develop a handheld 3D system because it did not want avid gamers to wait the emergence of televisions supporting 3D technology on the scene.
Saying that Nintendo had not yet set the price of the newly-introduced 3DS, Iwata added: “As soon as we launch this 3D device, everybody will be able to enjoy it.”
Iwata further revealed that leading game publishers – like Activision Blizzard, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft Entertainment, and Konami Corp. – have already started making games for the new handheld device.
