Tasmanian Treasurer has been put to a question by the Tasmanian Opposition, asking if he was the correct person to settle on the power prices. The price of Hydro Tasmania will be now decided by the Treasurer, Michael Aird, which can alter the electricity being provided to Aurora Energy.
This decision has been announced by David Barlett who further added that the Company should thus be facilitated to function sustainably, so that it can eventually result in reasonable and sound power prices.
The proceedings of Hydro were blamed to twinge the productivity of Aurora, whereas, on the other hand the lack of liberty in the new-fangled arrangement is becoming a major concern for Will Hodgman, the Liberal Leader. He feels that the power market of Tasmania will now be efficiently under the control of the Government.
Hodgman said, “It's not for the Treasurer to determine what the best settings are, nor indeed his Energy Minister both of who, in our opinion, are incompetent. But look, we're quite happy to look constructively at how we can best manage our energy entities in a competitive environment in a way that doesn't impede them unfairly”.
In the Government decision of handing over the authority to the Treasurer, the Greens Leader Nick McKim and his coworker Cassy O'Connor were also the components of it.
