For stability in its senior management rank, Qantas has recently appointed Gareth Evans, as the Chief Financial Officer for the Company. Mr. Evans has served the Company for 11 years as a veteran.
Since March, when Qantas announced the unexpected exodus of its Chief Financial Officer, Colin Storrie for personal health reasons, Mr. Evans has been the favorite for the position. After Mr. Storrie stepped down, Mr. Evans has been acting the role of the CFO in the Company.
Simon Hickey, who is the boss of Qantas’s loyalty program, had been nominated as the other leading candidate for the role of the CFO. Because of the specialized nature of the work, Qantas is preferred to favor internal candidate rather than external hire.
Mr. Evans, who was the CFO of the Qantas mainline business, has also worked at the airline since 1999 followed by Caltex and the accountancy firm KPMG. He has also worked as Director on the Board of the Qantas majority owned travel retailer Jetset Travelworld.
The Chief Executive of Qantas, Alan Joyce, said, “Mr. Evans brought to the role strong airline operational experience across a broad range of functions in addition to his corporate finance skills”.
Previously, Mr. Evans used to schedule the international and domestic networks of Qantas.
