Dismissing Suggestion That Prior Consultation Would’ve Prevented Tax: Rudd

Kevin-RuddPrime Minister, Kevin Rudd has fired the suggestions that more and prior discussion with the mining industry would have helped in preventing the existing row over the resource super profits tax.

Mr. Rudd also fired his comment to mining executives at a Canberra ball this week stating that he had very good memory to remember every discussion.

He said the Government stood by the structure strategy on tax reforms that had been released on May 2 and remained eager to carry on thorough consultations with the industry on problems related to the implementation and munificent transition preparations.

Mr. Rudd said Treasury had in fact taken on 18 months of consultations with the mining business and a lot many other consultations on a range of tax restructuring measures, which included a number of elements of what was lastly proposed.

So let us not pretend that this merely appeared from the heavens on May 2, he said.

In his speech at the Canberra midwinter ball on Wednesday night, Mr. Rudd aimed a remark at a table of mining executives, stating that he had a very good memory to remember almost maximum things.

That was understood by some as an assurance of payback after the subsequent election.
