Federated Farmers Happy with the MAF Report

Don NicolsonThe importance given to the water storage and infrastructure in the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's (MAF) annual Situation and Outlook for New Zealand Agriculture and Forestry (SONZAF) report, has been appreciated by the Federated Farmers.

According to the Don Nicolson, Federated Farmers President, the report revises the agricultural sector's economic performance for the last year.

Nicolson added that the main point to be focused in the report was the MAF's predictions regarding various agricultural industries and their performances in coming years.

It has been known that since a long time, the Federated Farmers were promoting the issue of water storage and infrastructure land, and with the decision of MAF to portray it as a separate issue, the members seem to be contended.

At a calculative level, the SONZAF stated that the "water storage has far-reaching implications and investing" if the water supply gets better, and that this will add to the value of the agricultural exports, the President shared.

He accepted that this is what the Federated Farmers wanted, but it was also added admitted that "water storage isn't the silver bullet answer" as it only addresses one component of the broader matter, which includes utilizing water and its contribution in future of the nation and creating community resilience.
