Lake Illawarra has new and enhanced boating and disabled access to the watercourse and Minister for Ports and Waterways, Paul McLeay, and Member for Shellharbour, Lylea McMahon, opened the new jetty and pontoon in Reddall Reserve.
Mr. McLeay said that this new walkway and pontoon indicates that seniors or disabled persons can also enjoy the beautiful lake.
He said that the development was partly sponsored by the NSW Government with a $40,000 allowance through the Better Boating Program.
Ms. McMahon congratulated the Lake Illawarra Authority, who took on the improvement and offered the required extra funds to finish the Reddall Reserve boat ramp developments.
She said that she is very happy to formally inaugurate these new facilities for the advantage of local inhabitants and sightseers, who take pleasure in recreational boating on Lake Illawarra.
Ms. McMahon said that the new facility will perk up safety for boaters and their travelers.
This is a very famous site and the enhanced facility accommodates for the rise in visitor numerals and sustains businesses, which depend on entertaining use of the lake like water ski shops and boat and fishing providers.
The NSW Government has offered over $25 million in grants supporting over 470 projects throughout NSW since 1998, from ship storage stands and boat ramps to jetties and ship sewage pump-out facilities.
Ms. McMcMahon said, "These grants are about planning for the future and making sure the community has safe access to facilities which help them get out and about on our waterways".
