A recent report has claimed that as many as 4 million Americans reaching their age of retirement have been indulged in various kinds of addictions, ranging from non-prescribed narcotic drugs to alcohol.
The report added that in a majority of the cases the addicts are found to be from low income group, unable to gratify their addiction urges.
As many as 75 million Americans, who were born during the period of 1946 to 1964, are alive at present, constituting 29% in the total US population.
The researchers have raised concern over the rising need of healthcare provisions for these people who are already aged and addicted.
The report compiled by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, said that number of people undertaking treatments for addiction of cocaine and alcohol in America, has grown to three times since 1992.
A large number of residents aged above 50, are being hospitalized for various kinds of abuses, since last five years.
In 2008, the people admitted in hospitals as a result of hyper addiction to cocaine, was found to be the greatest in contrast with other addictions.
"Boomers are at a critical stage in life when stress mounts from age-related health issues, blended families, grief and loss", said John Dyben.
