Facebook generated $800 million revenue in 2009

According to a recent report by Reuters news agency, citing unnamed sources, the revenues figures of the social networking biggie Facebook touched a mammoth $800 million in 2009 – the figure being $100 million more than the earlier estimates.

Though there has been no official disclosure about the exact revenue figures by the privately-held Facebook, industry blog Inside Facebook had previously projected the 2009 revenue figures of Facebook to be nearly $700 million.

Furthermore, according to BusinessWeek, the social network’s board member Marc Andreessen had said last year that the company’s revenue will exceed $500 million. However, the company also announced last September that it had actually reached the point of being cash flow positive; thereby indicating that enough money was being generated to cover all of the company’s expenses.

So far as the projected revenue for the ongoing year is concerned, the Inside Facebook blog expects the figures to surpass $1 billion, with a large part of the company’s revenue growth is apparently being a consequence of advertising dollars.

As such, in order to sustain its notable growth trend, Facebook will need to ensure that it stays ahead of the ad game, particular because the social networking arena is evolving faster than ever before.

Meanwhile, about the likelihood of Facebook going public in the near future, Mark Zuckerberg said in a March article by the Wall Street Journal: “We are definitely in no rush.”
