Substantiating the earlier scoop by gadget blog Engadget, Best Buy has confirmed that it will be selling the ‘white’ unit of the recently-released Android 2.1-based HTC EVO 4G on an exclusive basis next month.
Revealing that the white version of the EVO handset will also be priced at $200 for a new or eligible upgrade with a new two-year agreement on select plan with Premium Data add-on, Best Buy said that it has begun taking pre-orders for the white unit, which will be launched in all Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores, and will also be available from BestBuy.com/Mobile, July 11 onwards.
The recent disclosure by Best Buy implies that the June 4-released EVO’s other retailers - Sprint, Radio Shack and Wal-Mart – will not be offering the white version of the handset right away.
As per Engadget, there are indications that while Sprint may eventually be able to sell the white unit of the HTC EVO 4G by August 8; the other two retailers will start selling the white unit only by September.
The EVO, which is Sprint’s best-selling handset thus far, is powered by a 1 GHz processor; and runs the HTC Sense user interface. The handset features an 8-megapixel back camera; a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat; and a WiFi hotspot that gives users 4G or 3G connectivity to up to eight other devices.
