In an attempt to vamp up its Inspiron line of notebooks, Dell Monday announced its new line of ‘general purpose’ Inspiron R notebooks, which will boast a new design and updated components.
The Inspiron R line, which Dell is touting as notebooks that are perfect for families and students, will comprise 3 new models in three sizes, namely - the 14-inch Inspiron 14R model; the 15-inch Inspiron 15R model; and the 17-inch Inspiron 17R model.
All the three models of Dell’s Inspiron R line will have a plastic chassis that has been painted for a brushed-aluminum-like look. Available in four interesting colors - Mars Black, Peacock Blue, Lotus Pink, and Tomato Red –, these laptops feature WLED-resolution screens; built-in media card readers; 1.3-megapixel Webcam;, an HDMI port; a gesture-enabled toughpad; and a DVD-RW drive.
In addition, the Inspiron R laptop series – currently available at Dell.com, and to be available from Dell’s new retail partner Fry’s Electronics from June 25 – boasts an optional Intel Wireless Display technology, which will essentially allow users to wirelessly send their display to a compatible-receiver-equipped HDTV. The Intel WiDi could be useful in living rooms, classrooms, or board rooms.
Saying that the new Inspiron R laptops are “as beautifully designed as they are useful,” Dell describes the new models as having “curvy edges, smooth lines and available in four unique colorful finishes with chrome accents.”
