New motor vehicle sales in Australia fell by seasonally adjusted 3.2% in the month of May, according to the latest data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. The decline in May followed an increase of 9% last month. However, the sales of new vehicles in May were reported up by 16.4% on annual basis.
The latest data of the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed that the total number of new vehicles sold in Australia in the month of May was reported of 88484 units. ABS said that it is reported down by 3.2% compared to 91374 units sold in the month of April this year. ABS said that the May new motor sales were reported up by 16.4%, while compared to the same month last year.
The data of ABS revealed that five out of eight Australian states registered a decline in new motor sales in the month of May. ABS said that Western Australia recorded the largest decrease, followed by Victoria and Tasmania. However, new vehicle sales were reported up in the Australian Capital Territory and Northern Territory.
According to the data of ABS, sales of sports utility vehicles and passenger vehicles in the month of May were reported down by 6.7% and 3.8% respectively. On the other hand, other vehicle sales were reported up by 3.1% in May.
