Sony PS3 may offer Hulu’s paid subscription service

Sony PS3 may offer Hulu’s paid subscription serviceAccording to a Friday report by wire service Bloomberg, Sony’s popular PlayStation 3 (PS3) gaming console will likely offer online video website Hulu’s paid subscription service for TV shows. Hulu has thus far been offering the service free; and will soon begin testing the paid subscription model that it intends switching over to.

Citing unnamed sources ‘in the know’ of the proceedings, the Bloomberg report said that Sony and Hulu are working out a deal for Hulu’s paid TV service; and a partnership may likely be announced as early as next week.

Bloomberg further reported that once the Hulu-Sony deal is in place, the owners of PS3, who have already signed for the console’s Web service - the PlayStation Network -, will have the additional option of subscribing to a Hulu on-demand offering.

Hulu’s paid subscription service will give PS3 owners an on-demand “access to current and past seasons of prime-time TV shows from NBC, Fox, and ABC,” as per the information forwarded by the sources to Bloomberg.

While there has been no official confirmation of a likely Sony-Hulu deal, sources have also informed Reuters that Hulu – which will soon start charging customers for the online TV service – will probably also expand the paid subscription service to other devices like the Microsoft Xbox 360 console and the Apple iPad.
