With Samsung's flagship Google Android OS-based smartphone - `Galaxy S' - set to hit the markets later this summer, Samsung Electronics said in a Monday announcement that most of the leading US carriers have expressed their willingness to sell the forthcoming `Galaxy S' handset range.
Each of the networks to carry the smartphone will give the handset different names - Verizon will call it the Samsung Fascinate; AT&T will call it the Samsung Captivate; T-Mobile will name it the Samsung Vibrant; Sprint will name it the Samsung Epic 4G.
Other than the different names of the Samsung Galaxy S for different carriers, there will also be some carrier-specific differences in the device's features, which largely include - a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen; a
1GHz processor; Android 2.1 OS; 5-megapixel LED-flash camera; 2GB in-built memory; Wi-Fi; GPS; and Bluetooth.
While Verizon's Fascinate handset will additionally feature a 16GB microSD card and boast 3G mobile hotspot capabilities with; AT&T's Captivate will have 16GB internal storage, with a microSD card slot supporting another 16GB; customization option; and full access to the Android Market.
Meanwhile, the Samsung Vibrant on T-Mobile will add a 2GB microSD card pre-loaded with the "Avatar" movie and The Sims 3 game; as well as Amazon Kindle app for Android; and the Samsung Epic 4G on Sprint will feature a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and a front-facing VGA camera for video calling.
