Green Says, $2 billion Waterview Project is Wastage of Money

waterviewThe Green Party said that Auckland's $2 billion Waterview connection motorway is an outmoded project, which will not solve the transport problems in the city.

Today, New Zealand Transport Agency had proclaimed that its panel had made $2 billion available for the biggest roading project of New Zealand.

NZTA also said that it expects to save almost a year in the construction by operating the tender and the consenting process at the same time.

Transport Minister, Steven Joyce said that the ring route would avail 19,000 jobs and was necessary for the continuous development and economic growth of Auckland.

But the MP of Green Party, David Clendon said that the project, which joins the end of State Highway 20 at Maioro Rd in Sandringham to SH16 at Waterview, was made through a tunnel, which is a waste of money.

"Pouring billions of dollars into a few kilometres of motorway and destroying a well-established community is the exact opposite of what we should be doing", he said.

According to Mr. Clendon, this project will lower the value of property and draw more cars to the city making it more crowded and it will lead to higher transport cost.

Mr. Clendon also said that the project will destroy parks and residents would be facing with increased pollution and kids at Waterview Primary School would be playing on grasslands next to a busy motorway.
