A Single Wool Industry Body to be Established

David-CarterWool Representatives in the country have decided to form a single new industry body. The representatives met in a meeting last week.

A task force, established by the Agriculture Minister, David Carter had proposed for the establishment of this new industry. This new industry body will aim to bring back the profits in the wool sector.

Textile industry members have specified the objectives of the group and elements of the strategies.

According to Fibre Chairman, Bruce Wills, the poor returns from the industry in last few years have disappointed the farmers. Therefore, it is urgent for the industry to work to improve the situation.

In another development, the organization Meat and Wool New Zealand has renamed their organization to Beef + lamb New Zealand. This renaming is done in order to increase the local market for red- meat.

This move of the organization will also exempt the farmers form the wool duty, which they had been paying for research activities related to wool in the country.

"The new name signals a new direction for our organization as it moves into a new era with a meat-only focus", said Anne Berryman, who is Regional Manager for BLNZ in Europe.

The website of the Company will also be changed to www.beeflambnz.com.
