Fortescue CEO Attacks Julia Gillard on Miners New Tax

Fortescue CEO Attacks Julia Gillard on Miners New TaxSpeaking about the new mining tax, Fortescue Metals' CEO Andrew Forrest said that Julia Gillard's mining tax has, managed to sketch only a "reasonable framework" for further discussions.

The mining executive argued that Fortescue was pleased with the step as only major big international miners were involved in the discussions that were carried out with the Gillard Government regarding proposed new tax.

Mr. Forrest said that the conclusion was drawn just out of the negiotiations in which Government and three big multinational mining Companies participated and that there was no input taken from the local Australian Companies.

The billionaire also shared that Fortescue is of an opinion that the draft heads of agreement have come up with a rational structure for current industry consultation. He also added that it was unacceptable that at the time when "junior and smaller Australian iron ore and coal miners" griped their position in industry, they were hit with the new tax.

The comments of Mr. Forrest have come as a support to the opposition posed by the junior miners earlier today against the Government's new tax proposals.

On the other hand, the biggest miners of the world celebrated their victory in the resources tax after the new Prime Minister Julia Gillard joined. It is noteworthy to know that what Kevin Rudd could not do in two months, she managed to accomplish that in just weeks.
