The toll reduction by the RiverCity Motorway Group has led to a 12% increase in the traffic at Clem7 tunnel. It is claimed that almost 28,415 vehicles passed through the 6.8 kilometer road on Thursday.
Before this toll reduction, the tunnel averaged 22,000 to 25,000 vehicles every day and did not find favor with a lot of motorists. This is almost less than 50% as per the initial projections, which were estimated before the tunnel was opened in the month of March.
It was claimed by RiverCity that the numbers for Thursday were the highest compared to an average of 25,192 vehicles. This is also the highest number of vehicles, which have passed this route since the tolled road was thrown open to the motorists.
The reduced prices will continue till the end of September and car users will only pay $2 from the earlier $2.95, while trucks would be charged $3 and bikes will only need to pay $1.
The move was also praised by the people as well as others who feel that more and more people will be encouraged to use this route due to the reduction in toll prices.
The share prices of RiverCity also increased by almost 43% and reached 5 cents to increase by 1.5 cents.
