People Ignorant About Asbestos Risk

People Ignorant About Asbestos RiskA survey has found that almost 70%of the people are not aware of recognizing asbestos and its dangers in their homes. Being exposed to asbestos for long periods can lead to lung diseases but it can also be managed easily.

People need to be made more aware about the dangers posed by asbestos. This is being stressed by the British Lung Foundation. It wants the people to take simple steps to deal with this problem. A survey also confirmed that almost 45% were not even aware that asbestos is used as a building material.

Asbestos was mainly used in 20th century in various parts, including floor tiles, textured ceiling coatings and for the lining of boiler cupboards.

People, who are mainly involved in construction, are at maximum risk for developing various problems like cancer, asbestosis and other lung problems due to asbestos. But symptoms of these diseases may not appear for many years after being exposed to asbestos.

It is no longer used in building materials, but it still poses a risk to people, who are involved in demolition and doing repair and maintenance activities.

The British Lung Foundation estimates that almost 14 million homes across the UK were constructed when asbestos was used as a construction material.

It wants to raise awareness about asbestos and its harmful impact on people.
