According to a report released by mobile advertising firm AdMob, Motorola Droid is the most popular Android handset while the HTC Hero is at the second place. Google’s Nexus One is at the tenth position. All the Android smartphones have been ranked according to their market share.

The list has been prepared from 12.7 million Android smartphones from the AdMob network in the month of May. It also explains why the HTC Evo is missing from this list as it was released in the first week of June.

Motorola Droid is used by almost 21% of the Android users while 16% of the Android users have HTC Hero. Only 2% of the Android smartphone users have Nexus One from Google.

Droid was launched by Motorola in November 2009 last year and it is available only on the Verizon Wireless network. Even though a lot of Android smartphones have been launched, Droid is still very popular and commands a lot of market share.

It is expected that HTC Evo can give a good fight to Droid but it will only be available on Sprint network. Sprint has lesser number of subscribers than Verizon and does not market its services as aggressively as Verizon.

The U. S. has the highest number of Android users with 67% while China is second with 13% users.

HTC and Motorola dominate the Android market and have a share of 83% in the Android smartphone market.
