A lot of reports have been received by FBI’s cyber-crime complaint center IC3 as people’s email or social-networking accounts have been hacked in a scam which is aimed to defraud people of their money.
After taking control of a person’s account, the hacker sends a message to all the contacts of a user. It claims that the person has been robbed and needs money immediately and is stranded in the city of London or any other city.
In some of the messages, it is claimed that the person is left with very less time to pay the hotel bill and needs the money immediately. It claims that the money will be returned as soon as the person reaches his home.
Due to the urgent nature of the message, many people may not check and immediately send the money to their “friend” and become the victims of this fraud.
The FBI is telling all the people to confirm before sending any money to their friends and contacts to save them from any possible fraud and losing any money.
