Toll Slash Increases Traffic Via Clem7 Tunnel

Clem7On Friday, as many as 31,000 people used the Clem7 toll-tunnel. Two days ago, the tolls were cut to $2.

The number is still below the expected 60,000 vehicles but still more by 5,000 as compared to the June workday average.

The toll was reduced by the RiverCity Motorway in mid-week as the traffic figures were less. A source with Brisbane City Council revealed that on Friday around 31,027 vehicles went through the Clem7 tunnel.

Flan Cleary, CEO of River City Motorway had declared $2 toll on June 28.

Anthony Havers, the Communications Manager of RiverCity Motorway, said that on July 1 there was an increase of 12.8% in the traffic. He disclosed that the figures are quite good. From July 1 onwards the car drivers were slated to pay $4.28 on the toll but they would be paying fewer amounts now, in the wake of cuts.

Lord Mayor Campbell Newman has made a revelation that the $2 million loss will be counterbalanced by the funds from the marketing finances of Brisbane City Council.

The Brisbane City Council is now expecting that around 12,800 vehicles will travel through the Go-Between Bridge, which is less than what was expected earlier.
