Blood Test Determines Menopause Occurrence

Blood Test Determines Menopause OccurrenceAn Iranian researcher has identified a new blood test which can determine the age of menopause in women with enough accuracy.

Fahimeh Ramazani Tehrani, the researcher, presented the results at the 26th yearly meet of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology in Rome.

“The results from our study could enable us to make a more realistic assessment of women's reproductive status many years before they reach menopause", he said.

Tehrani belongs to Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran.

The approximate age for the progression of menopause is 51.7. However, in a couple of women it occurs as soon as they enter their 40s.

These uneven occurrences make it troublesome for the heath experts to determine the exact age for menopause.

Interestingly, the researchers led by Tehrani identified a hormone inside the female body, which indicates the exact age of menopause.

The study conducted blood tests on more than 266 women falling in the age group of 20 to 49 years.

The blood samples of these women were assessed every three and six months.

The hormone recognized, named Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH), which manages the functions of ovulation was examined in the blood samples.
