Toyota witnesses 6.8% year-on-year rise in sales during JuneIn its Thursday statement, Toyota Motor Corp, revealed that its US sales were fairly strong for the month of June – with the company having sold 140,604 vehicles during the month as compared to same moth last year sales of
131,654 vehicles; thereby marking a year-on-year increase of 6.8 percent.

Specifically speaking, Toyota’s June sales for total light truck sales witnessed a rise of 23.6 percent, from the last June numbers, to 58,644; including a 23 percent rise in SUV sales for the month and a 12.2 percent increase in sales of pickups.

June sales figures were led by the Toyota’s aging RAV4 brand which sold 12,573 units. In addition, while the sales of Tundra leaped 48.8 percent to 7717 vehicles; sales of the Sienna minivan, boasting a new “swagger wagon” design, posted a whopping 71.9 percent growth.

However, the weakest category of sales for June was the passenger cars category, with the sales of Toyota cars tumbling 2.2 percent year-on-year to 73,811 vehicles; and Lexus care falling 6.6 percent to 8.148 units.

Noting that Toyota “performed well” in June, in spite of a difficult economic environment, Jim Lentz, president and COO of Toyota Motor Sales USA, said: “Although the entire automotive industry struggled in June as weakening consumer confidence weighed on sales, Toyota maintains its leadership position as the number one retail brand in the industry year-to-date.”
