Reports: Accounts of some iTunes customers hacked

iTunesGoing by a number of reports making rounds on the various blogs, the accounts of some iTunes customers have apparently hacked; and, as a result, funds from the hacked accounts were probably used for buying apps in the iTunes App Store.

According to Engadget’s early Sunday report, there has been a substantial increase in the sales of book apps by a developer who goes by the name ‘Thuat Nguyen.’ As per the blog, the apps by Nguyen accounted for 42 out of the top 50 books – in terms of revenue – in the iTunes App Store’s Books section.

In addition, Blogger Alexandru Brie also said that a notable total of 41 books on the “Top Books Paid Software” listing of Apple’s online store were created by a publisher named “mycompany/Thuat Nguyen.” Brie said that the sudden sales of so many of the developer’s titles – most of which have had virtually no ratings or reviews – was a strange, yet considerable, feat.

Furthermore, the Engadget report also mentioned that several people have reported “up to hundreds of dollars being spent unwillingly from their iTunes account to these specific books.”

Another substantiation of the proceedings came from a post on the TNW Apple blog which said: “Yesterday my credit union contacted me saying there was suspicious activity on my debit card -- Sure enough over 10 transactions in the $40-$50 area all on iTunes equaling to $558.”
