Study Claims Fructose Increases B.P.

A new study has claimed that excessive consumption of fructose can enhance the blood pressure in consumers, who have been sustaining without a blood pressure problem, otherwise.

The study appearing in Journal of the American Society of Nephrology in Jul 1 2010 edition, claimed that elevation in blood pressure triggers the risks of stroke, heart disease and kidney failure.

Lead Author, Dr. Michel Chonchol of the University of Colorado Denver Health Sciences Center, and his team assessed the level of sugar consumption via a review of as many as 4500 adults.

They discovered that fructose eating is linked to high blood pressure. The greater the amount of fructose consumed, the more is the risk of increment in blood pressure.

During the review, all the subjects were made to consume an average of 74 grams of fructose per day, which totals the fructose present in 4 soft drinks.

"After adjustment for demographics; comorbidities; physical activity; total kilocalorie intake; and dietary confounders such as total carbohydrate, alcohol, salt, and vitamin C intake", said the report.

Fructose is found in corn syrap and table sugar. The regular foods and beverages do not include as much high concentration of fructose as do corn syrap and table sugar.
