The outbreak of norovirus started a few days ago in the Alberta Children's Hospital. However, it has not been eradicated completely and attempts are being made by the officials to handle the outbreak. Norovirus is a highly infectious disease whose symptoms include sudden vomiting and diarrhea.
Three children are already suffering from the virus and many staff members have also suffered from the symptoms. The first incidence of the virus was reported last Wednesday.
The officials believe that there could be more cases, as up till now only some cases have been confirmed. Dr. Judy MacDonald, Deputy Medical Officer of Health, revealed that the people who were sick after that time may have the same virus.
The cases of the norovirus have been limited to two surgical units in the hospital and the sick children are being isolated from the other patients. Several staff members have also fallen and have been told to stay home.
Dr. MacDonald said that the outbreak is still continuing and up till the time any new cases are not reported, and the present scenario is under control, the officials will announce that the epidemic is over.
