Chicago police picked up more than $5 million in cash and made the year's biggest seizure of heroin from a Northwest Side house, officers said on Monday.
Authorities said that the officials discovered 10 kilograms of heroin worth $1.5 million at the dwelling in the 2500 block of North Kildare Avenue. The house is located just around the corner from Kelvyn Park High School, which police said will play a role in the accusations that are pending against a man, who was seized outside the residence on Friday.
Police said that the man, recognized as being in his early 30s, was the only individual in the house serving as a security person.
During a news conference at the police headquarters, Jim O'Grady, commander of the Chicago police narcotics section, said, "It is definitely the biggest bust of the year for heroin. The fact that he had that much drugs near the high school will certainly play a role”.
Officials acclaimed the seizure, since police discovered the money and the drugs collectively, which is rare, O'Grady said.
Authorities said that the drugs had been intended for sale on the Northwest Side of the city and in Cicero.
The seizure and the arrest took place at around 2 p. m. on Friday.
