A recent research claims that a medication, which has been identified as a controller of the breast cancer onset in patients, has the capacity to save numerous women dying of the disease every year.
The researchers said that the medication has also got the capacity of reducing the size of the tumours without affecting the strong cells. This finding implies that the pill can significantly replace treatments like chemotherapy, radiotherapy or surgery for breast cancer patients.
Initial trials have claimed that Olaparib, the experimental breast cancer drug, can effectively treat ovarian cancer as well.
The scientists are of the view that the pill can remove skin, colon and prostate cancer tumors easily.
More than 1,500 women get diagnosed with breast cancer every year, in addition to an average of 700 cases of ovarian cancers being observed.
However, with the increment in the breast cancer survival rates over the last three decades, the predictions for ovarian cancer had maintained to be dreary.
Lead researcher, Dr. Andrew Tutt said, “This new type of treatment is showing great promise for patients whose cancer is caused by this specific genetic fault”.
He added that Olaparib’s effectiveness in treating breast and ovarian cancer has come as a revelation.
