Teenage Cancer Trust Warns About Sun Burns for Tanning A new survey recently revealed that this summer 26% of teenagers will opt for intentional sun burns for tanning, consequently making themselves more vulnerable to skin cancer and other skin-related problems.

The survey also unveiled that 31% of youngsters in the UK do not use sunscreen creams and 55% held a view that sun in the UK is not as harmful as in other places. This has raised concerns among the experts who say that these burns can result in serious skin problems.

For intimidating people about the harms of purposeful tanning, the Teenage Cancer Trust has introduced a sun safety campaign called “Shunburn”, which is being promoted with a slogan “love the sun, respect your skin”. This survey, presented for supporting the campaign also found that 22% of teenagers who slept in the sun, 74% of them reportedly said that cloudy days pose no threat of burns.

Also, 47% of these teenagers have burnt their shoulders most often with arms and noses at the second place.

Teenager Cancer Trust reported that the effects of “not so serious attitude” of the UK residents towards sun and their skin is evident as the number of malignant melanoma cases have increased four times in last 30 years. Also, in the UK this is the second most common form of cancer among the teenagers.
