Fishes Can Also Mumble, Snarl and Pop

Fishes Can Also Mumble, Snarl and PopA recent research conducted at the University of Auckland showed that alike other terrestrial animals, fishes also have the tendency to roar and growl.

Shahriman Ghazali, who is a Marine Scientist, wanted to know that which fish can talk. So he started the study at a Marine Reserve in Leigh.

First, he took some fishes and kept them in a fish tank. Then, he gave the fishes sometime so that they can adapt themselves with the new environment.

After that he began to record the sounds with the help of water-resistant microphones. He worked hard on his study and tried to decode the conversation of these aquatic creatures.

He first put the crayfishes in tank. But unfortunately, they didn’t make any sound. Then, he put the Bigeyes in the same tank and recorded the sounds.

He was successful this time. He heard some popping voices from these fishes. He also found that Gurnard can also mumble.

He also noticed that the Cod usually doesn’t make any sound but while laying eggs, it makes a loud voice.

Ghazali said, "Goldfish have excellent hearing, but excellent hearing doesn't associate with vocalization – they don't make any sound whatsoever”."
