Older Men Using ED Drugs Are More Likely To Have STDs

ViagraAccording to a report published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, the older men, who take drugs like Viagra for erectile dysfunction have twice the rates of sexually transmitted diseases, as compared to their counterparts, who do not take medicine.

The researchers observed that in both the cases, the rates are soaring.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention disclosed that there were six fresh cases of STDs per 10,000 men, as compared to 40 in the year 2008.

The study was headed by Dr. Anupam B. Jena of Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Dr. Jena revealed that the younger adults have an increased rate of STDs, but the rates are growing at a faster pace in older adults, also.

Dr. Jena said that the reason behind the growth is not yet known. He said that the causes may be increased rates of divorce and better health, which enhances sexual prowess and activity in the older men.

However, the major problem is that the older people do not follow safe sex practices. The researchers disclosed that 50-year-old people are six time less prone to use a condom, as compared to their 20-year-old counterparts.
