On Thursday, Telecom Corp. of New Zealand Ltd. said that it had settled on the conclusion dates for two segments of its old network as the corporation shifts customers to its the XT 3G cellular network.
Telecom, the nation's biggest telco by sales and market share, said that the CDMA-based WorldMode Roaming service that permits consumers on the network to use cell phones in particular nations, will come to an end on Oct.
28, 2010.
Auckland-based Telecom said that it will close its domestic CDMA 3G data network that offers consumers, using CDMA technology, the capability to have access to email and data, on Nov. 30, 2010.
The firm plans to shut down the old network by the middle of 2012.
According to the press report, Telecom and Gen-i are getting in touch with customers, who make use of these two services and also providing data for making a transition to the XT network. However, the XT and CDMA networks are not companionable, so users will require new mobile phones to make the changeover.
Telecom Head of Network Operations, Gemma Roper said, "As more customers continue to choose XT, and the service surpasses what is available on our earlier network, we are informing customers that we plan to close the CDMA network mid-2012, with the WorldMode and EVDO service closures to precede this".
