In a Thursday confirmation, studio BioWare and parent Electronic Arts (EA) said that the role-playing epic ‘Dragon Age 2’ – a sequel to the November-last-year-released critically-acclaimed original ‘Dragon Age: Origins’ – is presently being developed at BioWare Edmonton.
According to the details forwarded by the studio, a new website and trailer of ‘Dragon Age 2’, which has been scheduled for a March 2011 release on PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, will be debuted on August 17.
Noting that the original game, also developed by BioWare Edmonton, was strongly rooted in hardcore PC role-playing games and managed to sell over 3.2 million units, the company added that the forthcoming sequel will feature the theme “rise to power ... by any means necessary.”
Talking about stupendous success of the original game, BioWare co-founder and EA SVP and Ray Muzyka said: “Last year's launch of Dragon Age: Origins was one of the most successful in BioWare’s 15-year history and one of the most successful new IP launches in the 28-year history of EA.”
Adding that the companies are amplifying the things that made the original game such a huge success, BioWare and EA said that the sequel will boast “more action, a new, more responsive combat system and a dynamic story.”
Centering on a new hero named Hawke, the story of ‘Dragon Age 2’ will span a decade.
